OHSU is Oregon’s only academic health center, encompassing three hospitals, four professional schools and a premier biomedical research portfolio with strengths in cancer, neuroscience and rare disorders. The OHSU School of Medicine Departments of Molecular and Medical Genetics and Neurology are comprised of faculty who focus on research, training, and comprehensive patient care, including pediatric and adult genetic disorders, neurogenetics, molecular genetics, inborn errors of metabolism, cancer genetics, and pediatric and adult movement disorders.
Expertise
Drs. Hayflick and Hogarth lead a research program that spans basic, translational and clinical investigations in NBIA. In addition to discovering five NBIA genes, the OHSU team has defined the clinical, genetic and radiographic features of PKAN, delineated the distinctive features of major forms of NBIA, and championed open collaborations in order to advance the field of NBIA research.
